At first, it all seemed strange to me to see people sitting down doing nothing but breathing. I always wondered what was the magic behind meditation. It took me a long time to figure it out and I am still learning. After going through the hardest situation of my life; meditation saved me. I can’t tell you what is the best way to do it but I sure can give you some tips.
Meditation fits all of us differently. Most important you have to be willing to try it and believe in it. It’s magical how it changed my life. I went from being upset, impatient, stubborn, judge-mental, fast speaker, Ect to a zero resistance state of mind. In my opinion, resistance is the reason why negative thoughts and actions occur to us as humans with a brain programmed to self-sabotage. That’s all a thing from the past that is unknown to me. As it can be for you as well. We came to this world to change from negative to positive and I am looking for every possible way to make it happen.
Meditation is the north of my positive change.
I will be explaining each step that I took as a human who believed in nothing but myself.
Step one: I took a breathing class at a yoga studio near my house.
This class was my first step because how could I meditate if I didn’t know how to breathe properly? Can you believe some humans just like me before don’t know how to breathe properly. Wow.
Step two: I used an amazingly handy tool: Youtube. Youtube is the perfect tool to help you get into meditation. The variety of videos for guided meditation are endless. I decided to start with guided meditation because I could not endure more than 3 minutes with my eyes closed by my own. The guided meditation is great since you can choose what topic fits best. I started with the 5 minutes of gratitude-guided meditation.
That’s when I fell in love with the feeling of zero resistance.
DO NOT WORRY if thoughts come to your brain. The point of meditation is not thinking about anything and concentrating on your breathing but when you start it’s ok to not be able to control your brain. Remember practice makes perfect and only continuous practice will give you the ability to control your brain.
When I say control your brain I mean that every time that you think of something, remind yourself to come back to not thinking about anything but your breathing. This is the exercise that will make you a pro at controlling your brain.
Controlling your brain is a great tool that you can use all the time because you will be in control of all your thoughts. Negative thoughts will no longer be a threat to your mind which means total happiness.
Also, I love the practice of controlling my brain because I was the type of person that would speak and act without reasoning. Many times this got me into trouble and I hurtled people that I loved with negative comments without being aware of it.
I have practice this technique of being able to connect with my inner self and my brain so much that I am now able to think before talking, that’s a concentration skill that I will not take for granted.
Step 3: Practice makes perfect as you know. I started with 5 minutes and increased my time as I was feeling more comfortable with meditating. From 5 minutes I jumped to 10,15 and now I meditate for 30 minutes every morning.
To all that are curious about this method of self-control, I encourage you to try it. There’s a gratifying feeling to be able to see the positive change from within. Remember there are thousands of people like you and me that seek a peaceful way of life. Happiness is contagious.
I wish you a happy and blessed way to spiritual freedom.
